Phillips to give 100% for 'One more year'
August 16th 2009 :
Veteran Downs legend and current Managers Player of the Season Steve 'Steve-O' Phillips, believes he has 1 more year left of competitive football before he hangs up his boots.
" I've enjoyed my time playing football, but at 21 i think i need to consider either Vets football or concentrating on full time fatherhood. Obviously people may think im still young at 21 but being 21 is landmark age in a mans career. DId i mention i was only 21? "
Club Treasurer and centre back James 'Mellberg' Baker believes Steve-O will be back next year despite his recent claim.
" We've heard it all before. He'll have 1 week off and he'll miss it. I would! Plus at 21 he still has a few years left without a doubt. I expect to see him perform as usual this year and then be back next year. he'll be carrying on until his monstrous calves and thighs wont let him walk anymore. If he doesn't, I'll kill him. "
Phillips who scooped the Manager Player award at this years EDFC End of Season Do, believes The Downs will be a lot dtronger this year.
" People are worried that we havent seen numbers at pre season. But you have to remember that August is the holiday time so people are going to be away. Plus all this Swine Flu isn't helping. We still have the main crux of necessary players. The only position I can see us struggling with is a goalie. I've already told Dutch that I'm prepared to play up front this year, you know, for the team and all that. "
Phillips who has 1 goal to his name in all his years at EDFC, will not be playing up front this year.
